Because the Lord has anointed me
To preach good news to the poor.
He has sent me to bind up the brokenhearted,
To proclaim freedom for the captives
And release from darkness for the prisoners,
To proclaim the year of the Lord's favor
And the day of vengeance of our God,
To comfort all who mourn,
And provide for those who grieve…
~Isaiah 61:1-3~
As I read these verses a few weeks ago, they resonated in my heart for several reasons. Mainly because I understand more than ever in my life what the prophet is talking about. First of all He talks about the Spirit of the Lord. I have come to realize how much in the past I have taken for granted this important and vital part of my faith.
Thankfully though the Lord has shown me what power we as believers have in and through His spirit that dwells within us. The passage goes on to talk about preaching good news, binding up the brokenhearted and proclaiming freedom, which of course is very real to me now that I am in Africa; for daily I get numerous opportunities to do this. However my mind is currently on those who are poor and brokenhearted and captive in America. I just would like to challenge you who are there to be conscious of preaching the good news and proclaiming freedom to those around you. I am being very convicted of how much Jesus tells us to take care of the poor, needy and hurting people. This is such an essential part of following Christ that sometimes just gets laid aside.
Just a quick word for my friends and family all over the world. Pray for us. I'm praying for you all!
MAY THE SPIRIT GUIDE AND DIRECT YOU.
GOD BLESS!
